The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will host their annual mental health and substance use disorder spring forum on Thursday, May 18.
The “Overcoming Disparities and Barriers to Treatment for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder” event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free and will focus on treatment access in underserved communities. DHHS will provide resources for mental health and substance use prevention, intervention and treatment. The event will be held over Zoom.
Students will get the opportunity to participate in youth-led sessions on how to get support for mental health or substance use disorders. Students who attend the entire event can receive Student Service Learning hours.
Jennifer Grinnell, director of education for EveryMind Inc., will emcee the event. Additionally, senior medical advisor with the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Billina R. Shaw will speak during the forum. The manager of the County’s Crisis Center Beth Tabachnik will also speak. The youth panel will be moderated by Ben E. Stevenson, the prevention and harm reduction manager for the DHHS’ Behavioral Health and Crisis Center.
