The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) announced their ‘Heads Up Phones Down’ video contest for high school students. Students are challenged to create a video, maximum of 30 seconds, “promoting the importance of focusing on your surroundings and not your phone while walking, driving, or riding a bike,” per the MCDOT website.
The top three individual prizes for this contest include: an Apple Macbook Air, an Apple Watch and a mobile phone tripod. The group prizes are shared $800, $400 and $200 Visa gift cards.
MCDOT is focused on tackling distracted driving, walking and biking with these videos. They have also shared a list of safety tips to help students get inspiration.
Submissions are open from March 1-31, 2023, and winning videos will be posted on the MCDOT pedestrian safety website and social media channels.
