Crews will shut down a stretch of the ICC at Columbia Pike
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is implementing new electronic tolling systems along the Intercounty Connector (ICC). As a result, a section of the ICC in Montgomery County is scheduled to be closed March 6-9. Part of those upgrades, which will continue through early April, will include replacing existing tolling hardware and software at all toll facilities.
Friday, March 6 from 9 p.m. to Monday, March 9 at 5 a.m.
Westbound traffic on the ICC (MD 200) will be detoured at Columbia Pike (US 29). The detour will direct motorists south on Columbia Pike (US 29) to New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650), and then north on New Hampshire Avenue back to westbound ICC/MD 200.
Officials suggest that those traveling between I-370 and I-95/US 1 may consider taking I-495 when detours are in effect.
The upgrades include replacing hardware and software at all toll facilities. According to the MDTA, the detours are needed to accommodate crews and equipment while also ensuring the safety of motorists and workers.
Upgrades are expected to continue until April. MDTA has scheduled additional work throughout the month of March and will release further information on the detours as the dates approach.
