Doctor Sentenced to 18 Years For Sexually Assaulting Patients

A doctor with a medical practice in Silver Spring was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years in prison following his conviction on second-degree rape and fourth-degree sex offense for assaulting his patients.

Dr. Ishtiaq Malik, 60, of Lanham in Prince George’s County, must serve five years of supervised probation upon release.

He also will be required to register as a sex offender his whole life.

Malik received a guilty verdict in January.

“The judge issued a sentence above the Maryland State Sentencing Guidelines which is entirely appropriate in this case. Ishtiaq Malik took advantage of his position as a medical professional and violated these women who trusted him with their care,” said Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy.

Malik was taken into custody on Feb. 16, 2023, outside his medical practice, the Advanced Walk-In Urgent Care at 10800 Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring. He was accused of groping, inappropriately touching and sexually assaulting two patients during routine examinations, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Following the report of his arrest, eight more victims came forward.
