Montgomery County Police have labeled Thursday’s double homicide in Rockville as a murder suicide.
Police responded to the 14900 block of Southlawn Lane at 7:50 a.m. following a report of a shooting. A witness told police that the suspect fled in a gray Toyota Tacoma after shooting an adult.
Police found Civil Jean Calixte, 60, suffering from multiple gun shots. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
A lookout was issued for the Toyota Tacoma, and a responding officer spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Avery and Norbeck Roads.
The officer conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle and heard a gunshot. The suspect, 53-year-old Dario Villard, was found inside the truck suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.
Officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services provided aid and transported Villard to a local hospital, where he later died.
Detectives recovered a handgun from inside the truck.
During the investigation, police detectives learned that Villard had an active warrant from the Laurel Police Department for attempted first-degree murder on Wednesday. Laurel detectives were contacted, responded to the scene, and connected the Toyota Tacoma to a domestic-related shooting from the night before.
Both Calixte and Villard were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies.
Villard’s death is being investigated as a suicide.
