Driver Arrested in Crash That Killed WSSC Employee

Police said a Silver Spring woman has been arrested after she fatally struck a WSSC employee in September.

Dori Campbell, 35, was taken into custody Monday on a warrant charging her with negligent manslaughter by vehicle, negligent homicide by vehicle while under the influence, and other charges, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). She awaits a bond hearing.

39-year-old Ernest Joseph Dyson of Clinton was pronounced dead at the scene in the Sept. 8 crash. He was a WSSC Water employee working near the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Rodney Road.

According to police, Campbell was driving a Volkswagen CC southbound on New Hampshire Avenue when she struck Dyson.

Campbell was going 50 mph, which was 10 over the speed limit, according to police, and her blood alcohol content was 0.19 —

more than twice the legal limit. Police stated a half-empty bottle of alcohol was in the front passenger seat of her car.
