An adult male was killed early Saturday morning following a police chase on I270 south of Route 28.
Montgomery County Police responded to a call for a welfare check on a driver whose car was in the middle travel lane on the ramp of Rockledge Road. When the officers arrived at 5 a.m., they saw one man who they believed to be intoxicated with a gun on his lap.
Police said they tried to stop him from driving away. However, he drove off, heading north on I270. Police began a short pursuit, and the driver crashed south of Route 28. He was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.
Two adults in a different vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Staff from the Maryland State Police Crash Team and the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division arrived on the scene.
As required by law, the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is in charge of the investigation.
