Drone Assists Officers in Weapon, Drugs Arrest

Wilmer Ventura, 18, of Silver Spring was arrested Thursday and charged with weapon and drug related charges.

Montgomery County Police officers received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of Easley Street in Silver Spring.

Officers sent Raven 3, one of the department’s Drone as First Responder units. It arrived to find an unoccupied car. When patrol officers came on the scene, they saw a handgun in plain sight on the passenger side floor.

Two suspects returned to the car and were seen engaging in what police believed was a drug transaction.

When the suspects drove away, police stopped them and searched both the suspects and the vehicle. They found a loaded handgun, cash and a large quantity of suspected fentanyl pills, according to police.

Ventura was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit (CPU) where he currently is being held pending a bond hearing. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous subject with the intent to distribute, possession of a loaded handgun on person, possession, possession of a loaded handgun in a vehicle, possession of a handgun in a vehicle, and possession of a handgun as a minor.
