Montgomery County is now offering free hearing aids and personal sound amplifiers to eligible residents 60 years and over.
400 over-the-counter hearing aids and personal sound amplification products will be distributed. They will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a Montgomery County press release.
The distribution of these devices is the result of a partnership between the Aging and Disability Services Division of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and Access HEARS, a nonprofit working to help people with hearing loss.
To be eligible, residents must be at least 60 years old, live in Montgomery County, have mild-to-moderate hearing loss and have an annual income below 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Proof of age, residence, and income are required to obtain the devices.
“Hearing loss has a significant impact on individuals’ quality of life,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in the press release. “This program will help bridge the gap and make hearing aids and personal sound amplifiers more accessible to those who may face financial barriers.”
Residents interested in receiving the devices can apply by calling 410-929-0394 or by visiting the Access HEARS website.
