The Ellsworth Urban Dog Park will close for renovations starting Feb. 3 and remain closed through August 2025. Montgomery Parks will upgrade the park by building a retaining wall, improving the walkway outside the large dog area, and enhancing the entrances.
The renovation was originally set to begin in November 2024 but faced procurement delays. During construction, ADA parking spaces near the shade structure, the sidewalk along Route 29, and the sidewalks surrounding the dog park will be inaccessible. However, the playground and common areas will stay open.
Montgomery Parks manages nine dog parks, including several near Ellsworth Urban Dog Park. Alternative options for dog owners include parks at Takoma Piney Branch Local Park, Cabin John Regional Park, Wheaton Regional Park, and Dewey Local Park.
The Ellsworth Urban Dog Park features two enclosed areas: one for small dogs under 20 pounds and another for larger dogs. All visitors must follow Montgomery Parks’ Dog Park Rules and Regulations.
