Elrich Credits Host’s Dedication as ‘Montgomery al Día’ Marks 13 Years on Air

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will join “Montgomery al Día” for a special live episode Tuesday, April 15, celebrating the show’s 13th anniversary and its 622nd broadcast.

The County’s award-winning Spanish-language radio show airs weekly on Radio America WACA 900 AM and streams live on the Montgomery County en Español Facebook page.

It has been hosted and produced by Lorna Virgilí since its debut in 2012.

“Montgomery al Día is an essential part of our communications strategy and equity efforts, helping ensure that our growing Hispanic and Latino communities have access to timely, relevant information in their own language,” Elrich said in a press release.

Elrich says it’s more than just airtime that’s kept the show going strong for 13 years, it’s the woman behind the mic.

“I deeply appreciate the commitment and consistency Lorna Virgilí has brought to this show for 13 years. Her dedication has made it easier for Spanish-speaking residents to connect with County government and get the support and resources they need. I always enjoy being a guest and I’m proud to celebrate this milestone with her and with the community that relies on this program.”

The show has featured more than 400 guests and was nationally recognized by the National Association of Counties for its innovative multilingual outreach.

It has also helped increase Hispanic engagement with County services, community forums and the MC311 helpline.

The County has expanded its Spanish-language outreach in recent years through daily news briefs, public service announcements, and weekly updates on Calentando la Mañana, the longest-running talk show on WACA 900 AM.
