The Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 35, announced it was “pleased” with the wage increases for police that County Executive Marc Elrich included in his budget. That budget next goes before the County Council for approval.
“After months of negotiating and engaging in in-depth economic discussions, and at a time when our county is seeing record inflation, Lodge 35 and the County Executive have agreed to salary increases for our members that will put officers’ starting pay on par with the top pay in the state,” the FOP stated in a news release Friday.
“This is a step in the right direction as we continue to see historically low enrollment in Montgomery County’s police academy, transfers near zero, and exceptionally high resignations and applications for retirement,” FOP President Lee Holland wrote in the release.
If approved, police officers in Montgomery County will become some of the highest paid in the Washington/Baltimore region, Holland wrote.
Elrich submitted a $5.05 billion recommended Fiscal Year 2023 capital budget to the council in January.
