County Executive Marc Elrich will go to India and Vietnam for an economic development trade mission over the next two weeks.
“My goal is to find new ways for Montgomery County to partner with businesses in Vietnam and India,” he said Wednesday. “And we’re looking for opportunities to bring jobs and new technologies, new products to the county.”
Earlier this year, Elrich traveled to Taiwan for his first international economic trade mission as county executive.
For the upcoming trip, he will be joined by County Council President Evan Glass and county business leaders.
Elrich said India and Vietnam are two important economic engines with established business and cultural ties to the county.
It builds on his Taiwan trip, Elrich said. He said leaders met people in Taiwan who already knew about Montgomery County, which made it “a lot easier” to promote the county.
The leaders will visit Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru in India, and Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam.
Judy Costello, with the County Executive’s office, said the primary focus in each city is business attraction and also supporting companies in the county looking to grow with partnerships abroad. Eight companies will be traveling with county leaders.
More than two dozen meetings and site visits are planned.
