Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS) officials extinguished a fire at Rumba Y Carbon restaurant in Wheaton early Sunday morning.
According to Pete Piringer, spokesperson for MCFRS, one employee was injured. Piringer called the origin and cause of the blaze “suspicious in nature.”
At about 3:30 a.m., a fire broke out in the basement of the restaurant, which is located on Grandview Avenue in downtown Wheaton.
Officials estimated the damage to the building at $500,000, and $250,000 for the contents. About 65 fire fighters helped put out the flames.
The restaurant currently is closed.
