Dr. Anthony Fauci will join the Georgetown University faculty as a Distinguished University Professor on July 1.
Fauci led a lifelong career as an immunologist and infectious disease researcher and is now bringing his knowledge to the next generation of public health professionals.
His position at Georgetown will be held in both the School of Medicine and the McCourt School of Public Policy, according to a release from the university.
“I think what I have to offer is experience and inspiration to the younger generation of students … If I accomplish that, I think I’ll make a major contribution to Georgetown,” Fauci told the university in the news release.
Fauci worked as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda for 38 years and served as an advisor to the last seven presidential administrations.
Over the course of his career, he was a key researcher at NIH and advisor on the several infectious disease threats to the United States – including COVID-19 and the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Fauci mentioned that the choice to come to Georgetown was obvious, given his family’s connections to the university and being a longtime resident of the D.C. metro area.
“I feel like I’m coming home,” Fauci said in the release.
