Festival of Colors Comes to Germantown on April 5

The BlackRock Center for the Arts will host a Holi festival on Saturday, April 5, celebrating the traditional Hindu festival of colors. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features dance performances, a peace walk, and a color-throwing celebration. Find the event flyer here.

Holi marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. People celebrate Holi with a vibrant atmosphere, throwing colored powders, dancing, and embracing unity.

The event starts with a free Community Peace Walk at 8 a.m., followed by a Bollywood dance competition at 10 a.m. and a classical Indian dance competition at noon. The winners will perform in a showcase at 3 p.m., and the festivities will culminate with a Holi celebration on The Great Lawn at 4 p.m.

“Our festivals bring people together, celebrate diversity, and strengthen cultural understanding,” said Kelly Chauncey in a statement, artistic director at BlackRock Center for the Arts. “Holi is a time to embrace unity, tradition, and joy.”
