Fire Hazard Leads to Recall of 15.5 Million Toshiba Laptop AC Adapters

On Wednesday the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of 15.5 million Toshiba Laptop AC Adapters manufactured by Dynabook Americas. Consumers should immediately stop using the adapters and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement AC adapter.

The adapters can overheat and spark, creating a fire hazard. There have been 679 reports of the adapters overheating or catching on fire, melting, and burning; and 43 reports of minor burns between 2010 to 2021.

The recall includes AC adapters sold with Toshiba brand personal laptop computers as well as sold separately.

The adapters were sold nationwide and online at Toshiba.com from April 2008 through April 2014 with Toshiba brand laptop computers, or separately for between $25 and $75. Consumers may check the Dynabook website to determine if their AC adapter is part of the recall. Consumers need to submit a photo of their AC adapter with the power cord cut and certify proper disposal to dba-acadapter2024@dynabook.com to receive a free replacement.
