Fire, Rescue Services Awarded Funds for Cancer Screening

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) received $452,174 from the federal government to support its cancer screening program.

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and U.S. Reps. Jamie Raskin, David Trone and Glenn Ivey announced the allocation of almost $1 million for firefighter training and equipment upgrades for departments in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute’s State Fire Training Academy.

“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to keep their fellow Marylanders safe. This federal funding is an investment in public safety – providing our first responders with the resources and training they need to protect our communities and protect themselves,” the lawmakers said in a joint news release.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program funded these awards.
