According to authorities, about 60 firefighters responded to a “large (deep-seated)” paper trash fire at the Montgomery County Recycling Center in Derwood Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported just after 7 a.m. on the tipping room floor, Pete Piringer, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service Chief Spokesperson said.
Firefighters contained the fire at approximately 7:30 a.m. While no injuries were reported, Piringer said an extensive overhaul is expected.
The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security announced that due to the fire, the Recycling Center and the Route 355/ Frederick Road Entrance to the Transfer Station and Recycling Center will be closed Wednesday.
