The University of Maryland announced the passing of the first university staff member from complications due to COVID-19.
Luckmann Simon, a manager in Dining Services, worked for the University of Maryland for nearly 30 years. In an email sent to the university community, President Loh stated that Simon did not have contact with or serve food to students. His last day on campus was March 23.
“The passing of a member of our community is deeply saddening” said President Loh. “We are connected as fellow human beings. No pathogen is going to make us stranger to each other. Together, we will make it through”
