Former County Councilmember Perez Named to Biden Administration

Tom Perez, a resident of Takoma Park and the first Latino to serve on Montgomery County Council, was named by President Joe Biden Monday as Senior Advisor, Assistant to the President and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs.

“He brings decades of experience to my team, having served in local, state and federal government. His perspective and relationships as a former county councilman, a top civil rights attorney, and Secretary of Labor will be invaluable as we implement our Invest in America agenda and continue to make our government work for the people and for communities across the country,” Biden wrote in a news release.

Perez most recently ran unsuccessfully for Maryland governor. He was chair of the Democratic National Committee and served as U.S. Labor Secretary in the Barack Obama Administration.

He served on county council from 2002 to 2006.
