Kevin McLinton, a native of Silver Spring and star athlete at Springbrook High School and the University of Maryland, died Thursday at the age of 52.
Though the cause of death was not revealed, McLinton posted an image to his Facebook from a hospital bed early that morning.

After winning state titles in football and basketball at Springbrook, McLinton played 91 games at guard for Maryland.
There, McLinton averaged 11.3 points per game and ranks fourth in program history for assists per game at 5.2. He was a co-captain during his 1992-93 senior season.
McLinton’s father was former Washington Redskins linebacker Harold McLinton, who died at 33 after being struck by a vehicle on I-295 after stopping to help a stranger change a flat tire.
Kevin McLinton’s son, Kevin Jr., is currently an AAU basketball standout.
