County residents with Hyundai vehicles can get a free software upgrade to help prevent a theft method popularized on social media. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) collaborated with Hyundai to combat the rise in auto thefts. The offer is available Friday through Sunday, Aug. 2-4, and applies to Hyundai vehicles with model years 2011-2021.
Car owners or lessees need to bring their Hyundai vehicle to Paint Branch High School at 14121 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville to receive the software upgrade and a steering wheel lock. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, and Saturday, Aug. 3, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.
Appointments and IDs are not necessary, and there is no cost for the software upgrade or the steering wheel lock.
