Free Lyft Rides Available on Super Bowl Sunday to Keep Roads Safe

The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) has introduced its inaugural Super Bowl SoberRide campaign to prevent drunk driving in the Greater Washington area. The program will provide free Lyft rides on Super Bowl Sunday, February 9, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Residents aged 21 and older can access a $15 ride credit by entering a promo code in the Lyft app. WRAP will release the code at 6 p.m. on February 9 at SoberRide.com.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 40% of U.S. traffic fatalities during the 2022 Super Bowl involved drunk drivers. WRAP President Kurt Erickson emphasized the importance of offering safe transportation options during high-risk times.

This marks WRAP’s first new SoberRide offering in a decade. It joins the organization’s existing campaigns on St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, Halloween, and the winter holidays. Since 1991, SoberRide has provided 93,706 free safe rides home to prevent DUI-related crashes.

Sponsors of the 2025 Super Bowl SoberRide campaign include 395 Express Lanes, Anheuser-Busch, Beer Institute, Brown-Forman, Constellation Brands, Diageo, and others. Public partners include the District of Columbia Highway Safety Office, Maryland Highway Safety Office, and Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.
