A local nonprofit will offer free Lyft rides during St. Patrick’s Day weekend to prevent impaired driving. The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) announced its annual SoberRide® initiative, which provides no-cost rides for adults who have been drinking.
The program runs from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night from March 15 through March 17. Anyone 21 or older in the Washington, D.C., area can access a $15 Lyft ride credit by entering the SoberRide® code in the Lyft app’s “Payment” tab under “Add Lyft Pass.” The promo code will be available at 3 p.m. on March 15 at www.SoberRide.com and can be used once during the program.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports nearly half of all traffic deaths on St. Patrick’s Day involve drunk drivers. Last year, 503 people used SoberRide® instead of driving impaired.
SoberRide® covers all or parts of Washington, D.C., Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland, and several Northern Virginia jurisdictions.
Sponsors of the 2025 SoberRide® campaign include Anheuser-Busch, Giant Food, and the Maryland Highway Safety Office. Several local Irish pubs, including The Dubliner and Ireland’s Four Courts, also support the initiative.
Since 1991, WRAP’s SoberRide® program has provided nearly 94,000 free rides to prevent drunk driving. The nonprofit works year-round to reduce impaired and underage drinking through education and advocacy.
