In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, most City of Gaithersburg facilities and offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.
Gaithersburg Holiday Facility Schedule (alternate hours only noted if they differ from normal business hours):
Sunday, December 24, 2023
- Activity Center at Bohrer Park, Arts Barn, Casey Community Center, Gaithersburg Community Museum, Gaithersburg Aquatic Center, and Kentlands Mansion will be closed.
Monday, December 25, 2023
- All City facilities are closed.
- The Winter Lights Festival is closed.
- The Administrative Offices of the Gaithersburg Police Station are closed. Police patrol will remain on duty. For emergencies, please call 911. For non-emergencies, please dial 301-279-8000 for dispatch.
Sunday, December 31, 2023

Recycling and Bulk Pick Up Collection
- The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, will take place the PRECEDING Saturday, Dec. 23.
- The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, will take place the PRECEDING Saturday, Dec. 30.
- Recycling includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials, as well as brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and other yard trimmings, picked up by the City’s recycling contractor.
- Loose leaf collection will not take place on December 25.
On-demand bulk pick up for residents whose regular recycling days are Dec. 25 and January 1 will be unavailable. Appointments can be made for the following week using the online form, by emailing BulkPickUp@gaithersburgmd.gov, or by calling 301-258-6370.

Regular trash and garbage collection for City residents is handled by private contractors. Please contact your HOA or your private contractor regarding the holiday collection schedule for these materials.
