Gaithersburg Appoints New City Attorney

The city of Gaithersburg appointed Darnell E. Ingram as their new full-time City Attorney Monday.

Ingram was appointed by Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman and approved by the City Council. He will start on May 1.

“My passion for equity and strategic partnership aligns perfectly with the City and its vision and mission. I look forward to working with my new colleagues and beginning a new journey in Gaithersburg,” said Ingram in a press release.

As city attorney, Ingram will work on the city’s legal matters such as providing legal advice to the Mayor and City Council and monitoring local, state and federal laws and their effects on the city.

Ashman said Ingram has worked in several different sectors of the law including municipalities, utilities, litigation and prosecution.

“He knows the issues and he know all sides of the legal game. And he was really, really impressive in that way. He’s got a tremendous track record,” Ashman told MCM.

Prior to accepting the post, Ingram served as the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Baltimore City’s Department of Public Works. He also was the Deputy City Solicitor of the city’s Law Department and the Director of the Office of Equity and Civil Rights.

The position of City Attorney was previously held by Lynn Board who retired in late February.
