Gaithersburg Book Festival Workshops, Children’s Authors Announced

The 16th Gaithersburg Book Festival is just a month away.

The free, day-long event on Saturday, May 17 at Bohrer Park features award-winning authors, workshops, a poetry contest, and a “Children’s Village,” which is the area of the festival dedicated to kids and teens.

This week, the line-up of workshops as well as the list of Children’s Village authors was announced.

The schedule for teen and adult workshops, which are designed for ages 16+, is as follows:

  • 10 a.m. Finding Healing Through Writing
  • 11 a.m. The Polished Proposal: Crafting a Nonfiction Book Proposal That Gets Attention
  • 12 p.m. Mapping Stories for Structure and Revision
  • 1 p.m. Find the Right Editor for You
  • 2 p.m. Playwriting By Any Means Necessary
  • 3 p.m. Start in the Middle: Writing Memoir Now
  • 4 p.m. The Write Path: Understanding Your Publishing Options

Here is the schedule for workshops for children ages kindergarten through fifth grade and their families:

  • 10 a.m. Unlocking a Lifelong Love of Reading: A Workshop for Families
  • 11 a.m. Poems in a Snap: Writing Ekphrastic Poetry from Photos
  • 12 p.m. History, Her Story, YOUR Story!
  • 1 p.m. Animal Haiku: Poems on Favorite Creatures (ages 8+)
  • 2 p.m. Comic Character Creation
  • 3 p.m. Art Journaling: Stories Through Words and Pictures
  • 4 p.m. Tell Amazing Stories in Impossible Worlds

And, there will be more than 40 authors in the Children’s Village, including:
