Gaithersburg High School boys varsity basketball head coach Jeff Holda announced Wednesday that he is stepping away from the position.
Holda’s resignation concludes 18 years at the helm of the Trojans, highlighted by state semifinal runs in 2018 and 2023.
Gaithersburg struggled this season, finishing 6-13 and missing the state tournament for just the third time since 2011.
Appreciate my staff; great men & role models.

Holda told MCM, “I loved every minute of being a coach at Gburg. I appreciate the Gaithersburg community for all of their support over the course of my career. Most importantly, I appreciate all of the young men who came though and helped build our culture, and I value the relationships I’ve built with players, families and my colleagues. That is what I will miss most of all.”
Holda received an outpouring of well wishes on X from fans, fellow coaches and former players following his announcement.
“You were the best Holda,” wrote NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors and former Gaithersburg standout Malcolm Miller.
Holda also coached Jordan Hawkins, national championship winner with UConn and current New Orleans Pelicans’ guard, for one year before Hawkins transferred to DeMatha.
