Gaithersburg Man Receives Executed Sentence for Assault of Officer

Jermaine Palmer, a 36-year-old Gaithersburg native, has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for his June 2023 assault of a Montgomery County police officer in his Nov. 6 hearing. Palmer will serve an executed sentence of 21 years behind bars.

Palmer was found guilty on charges of first-degree assault, second-degree assault on law enforcement, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, and possession of CDS (not cannabis).

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office:

“This stems from an incident on June 30, 2023, in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle in Gaithersburg. Montgomery County Police officers responded for a report of a person spraying a fire extinguisher in the hallway of an apartment building. As one of the officers approached Palmer, the defendant punched him in the face, causing the officer to fall back and hit his head on pavement, leaving him unconscious. The officer was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Palmer ran toward the Flower Hills Shopping center where he then assaulted another officer as police worked to take him into custody inside of a fast-food restaurant.”

The prosecutor for this case is Assistant State’s Attorney Teresa Casafranca.
