A Gaithersburg maintenance worker won $100,000 playing the 50X The Cash scratch-off lottery game.
He recently picked up his winnings at Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore, according to a news release.
Maryland allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.
The $100,000 top prize marked the end of a winning streak that began with a $50 win on an instant ticket. According to lottery officials, the winner used those winnings to buy five $10 50X The Cash scratch-offs at the Check Cash Depot in Gaithersburg, where he continued to win. Among the five tickets, one revealed a $500 prize, followed by the $100,000 jackpot on the next instant ticket.
“I was happy and pleased. I have been playing for a long time,” the winner said, according to lottery officials.
He plans to put the money in the bank for now. He hopes to use the money to purchase a home.
The Check Cash Depot located at 114 Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg will receive a $1,000 bonus from the lottery for selling the $100,000 top-prize winning ticket.
