Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg closed permanently on March 31 after almost 45 years in business.
Ahead of Monday’s city council meeting to vote on Lakeforest Mall’s masterplan, Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman spoke with MyMCM reporter Cheyenne Corin.
“What they’re proposing is kind of like Crown, maybe not quite as high end but a really good master plan community,” said Ashman.
The council will vote on the application for the sketch plan and rezoning. If it does pass, there still will need to be studies conducted about traffic, schools, and renderings of what the buildings will look like.
Ashman says if it is done correctly, it has the potential to be a catalyst for redevelopment and increase in property value.
“I think it could be a catalyst for a lot of good things on the east side of Gaithersburg and I think it will be,” said Ashman.
