A Gaithersburg man was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday for his role in the 2020 fatal shooting of 17-year-old Taijhon Wyatt, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Deandre Levy, 22, pleaded guilty in August 2023 to voluntary manslaughter while armed. Two other Washington, D.C. men involved in the shooting — Trey Prillerman, 19, and Nelfy Hernandez, 20 — were sentenced to 17 years in prison and 13 years in prison, respectively.
Wyatt was shot in the Brightwood Park neighborhood of Northwest Washington in August 2020 while walking with a group of friends in an alley. Prillerman drove a stolen vehicle to the mouth of the alley where Hernandez and Levy open fired into Wyatt’s group, killing him and wounding another, according to the statement.
The three defendants fled the area using the stolen car, which was later recovered outside Baltimore. Wyatt died at the scene after suffering gunshot wounds.
Levy was arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed in December 2020. Hernandez and Prillerman were arrested February 2021, according to District police.
