According to a study by Wallet Hub, Gaithersburg is the most diverse city in the United States.
Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman said in a statement, “It is a great honor to once again rank as the most ethnically diverse city in the U.S. Our diversity is a source of pride, and it is a blessing that so many cultures call Gaithersburg home. We will continue to foster an atmosphere of inclusion that welcomes all.”
The personal finance website compared 501 U.S. cities using three key indicators of diversity:
- Ethnoracial Diversity
- Linguistic Diversity
- Birthplace Diversity
Additionally, three other Montgomery County cities—Germantown, Silver Spring, and Rockville—also ranked in the top 10 most diverse cities.
Germantown, Silver Spring and Rockville rank number three, four, and eight respectively.
Interestingly, when comparing diversity in small cities, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Silver Spring, and Rockville are ranked number one through four, respectively.
The top 10 most diverse cities in America are, in order: Gaithersburg, Md.; Jersey City, N.J.; Germantown, Md.; Silver Spring, Md.; Kent, Wash.; Spring Valley, Nev.; New York, N.Y.; Rockville, Md.; Federal Way, Wash.; and San Jose, Calif.
