The City of Gaithersburg is conducting a survey to see what residents would like to see at Lakeforest. The once vibrant mall area is vitually empty and building at the property is in moratorum while an amendment to the Lakeforest Master Plan Amendement is conducted.
The 20-question survey is designed to learn what residents would support on that area at Russell Avenue. Many of the questions involve future plans for businesses, housing types, open space, traffic patterns and equity and sustainability.
Lakeforest Mall was developed in 1978 as a traditional, enclosed suburban shopping mall. The mall and parking areas take up about 100 acres.
The survey will close on Nov. 6, but work on the master plan will continue in 2021.
“What’s going on with Lakeforest Mall?” We get that question, a lot! Now we have a question for you! How do YOU envision the future of Lakeforest?
