Salimatou Cristal Ouedraogo, an English Language Development teacher at South Lake Elementary School in Gaithersburg, was named a 2024 Global Learning Fellow by the National Education Association (NEA) Foundation.
Among the 48 educators who received the honor, three were from public schools in Maryland, according to the NEA Foundation.
The year-long fellows will participate in a two-day professional development conference in October and an international field study in Costa Rica for 10 days in summer 2025 to supplement online coursework, webinars and reading and reflection.
The program aims to help public school teachers increase global competency in their schools and provide students with global perspective.
