Artwork from the Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards on display in Gallery B in Bethesda from Sept. 5-29. The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District selected eight painters as finalists for the awards, a juried competition and exhibition.
Carol Trawick, a local business owner and community activist, created the awards in 2003 to honor visual artists residing in the region.
Finalist of the 2024 Bethesda Contemporary Painting Awards
This year, nearly 400 artists submitted their work, hoping three jurors would select them as finalists. The jurors were Dr. Jennifer Figg, Professor of Art at Townson University; Tatiana Flores, Professor of Art History, University of Virginia; and David Page, Sculptor-in-Residence, American University and 2004 Trawick Prize winner.
The winners will be announced at a private reception on Wednesday, Sept. 4, with $14,000 in prize money up for grabs. The Best in Show, first place winner will be awarded $10,000, the second-place winner will receive $2,000, and the third-place winner will receive $1,000. A Young Artist, a finalist who is younger than 30, could win $1,000.

Bethesda Up hosts an opening reception Friday, Sept. 13 from 6-8 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.
