Councilmember Evan Glass announced his intention Wednesday to run for County Executive. Glass will be the first openly LGBTQ+ candidate to run for the office.
Currently, Glass serves as an At Large member of the County Council. Now in his second term, he chairs the Transportation and Environment Committee. He also is an active member of the Economic Development Committee.
Among his priorities he lists housing affordability, transit equity, Vision Zero and climate change.
Regarding his candidacy, Glass said, “Montgomery County is at a crossroads. Donald Trump is determined to dismantle the federal government and our quality of life. He and his aspiring oligarchs are eliminating the civil service, suppressing diversity and inflaming the climate crisis, Now is the time to stand up and fight for the future we want in Montgomery County – one where everyone feels safe, supported and has the opportunity to succeed. These are the values that have guided me in public service, and it’s why I’m excited to announce that I’m running to be your next County Executive.”
Before running for public office, Glass spent more than 12 years working at CNN as a journalist covering the White House, Congress and national politics.
Glass lives in Silver Spring with his husband Jason and their two rescue beagles.
Elections for County Executive will be held in 2026. Glass is the first to announce following the institution of term limits for the office which bar the current County Executive, Marc Elrich, from running again.
