With a CrowdStrike software outage currently impacting Microsoft systems across the globe Friday, some systems in Montgomery County are impacted.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, the county’s Circuit Court is closed Friday and proceedings will be rescheduled, but District Court bond hearings are happening in Rockville as scheduled.
According to the Maryland Judiciary, all Maryland courts, offices, and facilities are closed to the public Friday but are open for emergency matters. Clerks’ offices are closed.
As for Metro, rail and bus service is running as scheduled, according to the system. MetroAccess — the transit service for customers with disabilities — has minor delays, according to the system, and teams are contacting impacted customers. Metro’s website and some internal systems came down early Friday, but the website and trip planning apps have since come back online.
Hospitals in the county are facing minimal impacts.
Across the Adventist HealthCare system, including the Shady Grove Medical Center and White Oak Medical Center, as well as 60 locations across the county and Prince George’s county, there is “minimal impact” but Adventist HealthCare is closely monitoring the situation.
“As of midday Friday, patient care around our health system is proceeding without major disruption,” according to a statement from the system. Adventist HealthCare does not use CrowdStrike, but outages are affecting some third-party platforms and business partners — “Our teams prepare for these types of unexpected scenarios and have back up processes in place to ensure continuity in patient care.”
Holy Cross Health, with hospitals in Germantown and Silver Spring, is up and running with business as usual, according to the system.
Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) facilities, which includes Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, are open and providing patient care.
“JHM is aware of the Microsoft and CrowdStrike technology outage and is currently experiencing minimal impact to our normal IT functions,” reads a statement from JHM. There are emergency preparedness protocols including downtime procedures to ensure the system can continue operations and care in the event of an outage like this, according to the statement.
