Grammy-nominated singer and Easton, Md native Maggie Rogers had a surprise visitor to her show Sunday night at Merriweather Post Pavilion. Gov. Wes Moore took the stage and proclaimed June 16 as “Maggie Rogers Day.”
Moore told the crowd of 20,000, “I got an announcement to make. Because of the way she represents Maryland in such a beautiful way, because of he work around registering voters, because of her work being a champion for reproductive health, because of her work advocating for fair ticket pricing for all of her fans, I am proud to announce that from now on, June 16, 2024 is, in the state of Maryland, Maggie Rogers Day.”
After a lengthy round of applause, Rogers shrugged and told the crowd modestly, “I accept.”
“Everyone at Merriweather is still walking on a cloud. It’s thrilling to have the venue filled a beloved hometown hero, such as Maggie, but to get to be the place where Gov. Moore chose to present her with the proclamation naming it Maggie Rogers day in front of of a thousands of screaming, adoring fans – well, it doesn’t get any better,” a spokesperson from Merriweather Post Pavilion told MCM.
Rogers’ parents took her to many concerts at Merriweather Post Pavilion when she was younger. She dedicated her final song of the evening, Over the Rainbow, to her dad on Father’s Day.
