Police said a Tennessee woman was arrested and charged for kidnapping her 8-year-old granddaughter from Gaithersburg.
Karla Vanessa Martinez, 41, of Springfield, Tennessee was arrested last Thursday, March 30 and is awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) wrote in a release Monday.
8-year-old Miriam Garcia was found safe and unharmed and has been reunited with her family.
The abduction occurred March 25, the day the girl had last been seen outside of her residence on Marshall Street in Gaithersburg, according to police.
Per police, through investigation detectives identified Martinez as the suspect and found she took her granddaughter to Tennessee. Detectives got an arrest warrant charging Martinez with kidnapping-related counts last Monday, March 27, and notified the Springfield Police Department in Tennessee about the abduction and arrest warrant.
Martinez and Garcia were found in a parking lot in Springfield on March 30, and Martinez was arrested. She was taken to a correctional facility in the area, where she is awaiting extradition.
