Wheaton Regional Park is launching two mountain biking courses. Gravity Mountain Bike Park will open on July 21. Montgomery Parks hopes the new park attracts bikers and riders who seek adventure.
The addition was first proposed in the 2022 Wheaton Regional Park Master Plan update. The goal: to improve the park for residents and the surrounding community over the next two decades.
The park boasts two courses designed for moderately experienced bike riders. An intermediate green course will feature dirt berms, tabletops and rollers, while a more advanced blue course will feature a start platform, jump sections and wooden berm turns.
“This new bike park is a great spot for adventure riders to build their skills on challenging terrain. Once riders start the course, it’s all downhill with multiple challenges to navigate,” Montgomery Parks’ natural surface trails program manager Bob Turnbull said in a press release. “We encourage riders to start with the green course and work up to blue.”
An Action Sports Park for Wheaton Regional Park’s Rubini Complex is also in the beginning phases of design, according to a Montgomery Parks press release. The complex will include a skate park, pump track and climbing wall, among other amenities.
“This bike skills park is one of the first new projects in Wheaton Regional Park coming out of the recent master plan update,” Montgomery Parks Director Miti Figueredo said. “We hope people will have a lot of fun using it with their friends, and that we can secure funding over the next few years to move forward with more of these improvements, including the Action Sports Park.”
