The Montgomery County Planning Department will hold an in-person community visioning session on the Great Seneca Plan Wednesday.
Residents will have the opportunity to provide input on the future of the county’s Great Seneca area, which borders Gaithersburg and Rockville. The area also includes the Universities at Shady Grove, Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Life Sciences Center. The plan also examines areas along the I-270 corridor with residential communities such as Quince Orchard and Rosemont.
The in-person visioning session will take place at Rosemont Elementary School from 7-8 p.m.
The “Great Seneca Plan: Connecting Life and Sciences” looks to examine the Great Seneca community to identify strengths, priorities and create a vision for the future. The plan will evaluate how the area has developed over the last decade. County planning officials will use community feedback to provide housing, economic and transportation recommendations when the final plan is completed.
The revamped plan is a comprehensive update to the 2010 Great Seneca Science Corridor Master Plan – which created a “vision for a dynamic live/work community that would support a globally recognized biotechnology hub in the Shady Grove Life Science Center,” according to Montgomery Planning’s website.
County planning staff will begin Wednesday’s community meeting with a presentation on the current planning process and area of interest. Community members will also engage in small group discussions about what they like and dislike about the area.
Planning staff recommends that community members RSVP in advance for Wednesday’s community session.
