The Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy (MCAEL) is bringing back its Grown-Up Spelling Bee, an event designed to raise funds and awareness for English language programs in the county.
MCAEL is a coalition of public, nonprofit, and business partners dedicated to helping residents develop essential English literacy skills for work, education, and daily life. Through its community programs and resources, MCAEL supports residents in achieving greater language proficiency.
This year’s competition features teams from BGE, Bethesda Magazine, Burness, Montgomery College, National Cooperative Bank, and the Next Execs of the Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce.
“The Spelling Bee highlights the importance of high-impact adult ESOL programs in a really fun and creative way,” said MCAEL Communications Director Emma Starr.
During this year’s spelling bee, MCAEL will honor Laura Prad and Robert Huffman for their outstanding contributions to the county’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.
Attendees will have access to food and beverages before the event, providing an opportunity to connect before the competition begins.
The spelling bee will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Montgomery College’s Cultural Arts Center.
