Former Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) Assistant Director Angelisa Hawes began her time as Acting Director of MCPL on July 1. Hawes was appointed by County Executive Marc Elrich and will serve until the County Council completes its confirmation process for MCPL’s new director later this year.
Hawes’s tenure comes after former MCPL Director Anita Vassallo retired after her 50-year career with the county’s library system.
Before serving as assistant and acting director, Hawes previously managed the White Oak and Aspen Hill branches after working in public libraries in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Michigan.
She holds a Bachelor’s in English from Howard University, a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University, and attended George Washington University for Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts.
