It’s that time of year. Seasonal allergies are kicking in, and people who dread the spring when pollen fills the air, and leaves are growing back on trees are feeling it right now. Typically, allergy sufferers are dealing with stuffy noses, sinus headaches, sneezing, and itchy or watery eyes.
My MCM spoke with the President and C.E.O. of Emerson Clinical Research Institute, Dr. Fabian Sandoval about allergies, their causes, and treatments.
Now that it is springtime, people are spending more time outdoors. Dr. Sandoval has some other tips to keep you healthy this time of year.
- If you are going to be out in the sun, protect your eyes from Ultraviolet light and wear sunglasses. Sunglasses also can protect your eyes from pollen.
- Wear sunscreen to protect you from the sun.
- Be wary of puddles of water because they may attract mosquitoes which can carry diseases.
- If you hike, make sure you wear tall socks, and make sure they are white, so you can see any bugs that might have attached to your skin.
- Be careful of poison ivy, and under no circumstances should you ever burn grass clippings or brush piles that contain poison ivy. That would create a very dangerous situation if smoke from poison ivy gets into your lungs.
