The Hillandale Center on New Hampshire Avenue showed off its new mural, signs and lighting Thursday.
The $580,000 total facade improvement project marks the county’s first project completed under its Facade Improvement Program.
“Great to join biz owners, community members, and County and State partners to cut the ribbon on Hillandale Center’s beautiful new signage and murals,” Councilmember Kristin Mink tweeted. “Costs are split, everyone benefits.”
County Executive Marc Elrich and the Department of Housing and Community Affairs cut a ribbon Thursday as part of the center’s new look.
The new look features a freshly painted façade, better signage, a revamped design with enhanced aesthetics and color scheme, a new wall mural and improved lighting for the parking lot.
The idea of the program is to improve the outside look of commercial properties and businesses that are at least 10 years old.
Hillandale Center property owner Ben Bran spent $579,804 on upgrades and will receive half of that thanks to the program, which funds eligible improvements up front and then reimburses the owner when the project is completed for up to 50% of the costs through an easement purchase by the county.
This morning I joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Hillandale Center's transformation in Silver Spring! A fantastic $580K facelift in East County under @MCGMDDHCA’s Countywide Facade Improvement Program. TY to all involved in revitalizing and enhancing this community space pic.twitter.com/iZgwZxW8AY
