Glenstone Museum in Potomac is displaying 70 works by abstract artist Ellsworth Kelly.
Ellsworth Kelly at 100 marks the centennial of the artist’s birth and features “iconic works by the artist” according to Glenstone Director and Co-Founder Emily Wei Rales who called the exhibition “historic.”
The exhibit opens to the public beginning Thursday, runs through March 2024 and will travel to Paris then Doha, making it the first traveling exhibition organized by Glenstone.
MyMCM talked to the exhibition’s curatorial lead, Yuri Stone, during a press preview.

The works from the exhibition are drawn from Glenstone’s collection and those of leading international museum lenders, making it one of the largest retrospectives of Kelly’s work in the 21st century. The comprehensive presentation will chart the artist’s lifelong exploration of the relationship between form, color, line, and space through key works drawn from pivotal periods in his career – several on public view for the first time.
Glenstone opened in 2006 then expanded in 2018. Tickets for the museum are free with timed entry but must be secured in advance through the website..
