Gov. Larry Hogan issued an executive order allowing salons and barbershops to open in order to serve essential workers on Monday, April 20.
The order aims to serve essential workers, including “military personnel, first responders and other essential workers required to maintain certain, well-documented grooming standards as part of their profession, or where ungroomed hair could pose a safety risk,” according to the text in the order.
Salons may serve essential workers who can provide documentation of their employer’s policy regarding grooming standards. Essential workers must provide such documentation to the salon or barber, and the salon is required to keep a copy of the documentation provided.
Further, workers can only access services with appointments. Walk-in services are prohibited, and only one customer may be in the salon or barbershop at a time. Both the customer and the stylists are required to wear face coverings as well.
Service providers are required to keep contact information for their customers, and are required by the order to inform any customers if a staff member or stylist has tested positive for COVID-19.
