Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in the November election, addressed Leisure World residents and answered questions in Silver Spring on Thursday.
“I’m in the race because I’m very concerned about the country, I’m concerned about the future for my grandkids, just like all of you are,” Hogan told residents. “And I think that America is at a critical and dangerous crossroads. And like many of you here in the room, quite frankly, I’m completely fed up with politics as usual in Washington.”
“In the Senate, I will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare for our seniors who earned it and who deserve it and rely on these vital programs,” Hogan said. “I will continue to work to deliver tax relief and make life more affordable by indexing Social Security benefits to inflation and eliminating the SALT cap deduction here in Maryland which is causing you to pay more taxes than other states.”
The Leisure World Republican Club hosted Hogan.
“I think Democrats, Republicans and Independents are all concerned alike,” Kathleen Faber, with the Republican Club of Leisure World, told MCM. Topics important to her include the economy and high expenses, parental rights, and voting on Supreme Court justices. She is a Republican, her husband is an Independent, and her father-in-law is a Democrat: “We’ve all supported Larry Hogan as governor for the past two terms. But we want to know — he would be representing us for Maryland for the entire nation, and we want to make sure he’s going to support our views.”
“I’m going to go out there and do my best to be that man in the middle, that key voice, that can try to bring people together on both sides of the aisle and try to finally start to get bipartisan common sense solutions on the important issues” that face the country, Hogan told residents.
Earlier this month, Prince George’s County Executive and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks met with Leisure World residents.
